Hermes and Pierre Hardy Create the Ultimate Kelly Bag

Securing an Hermes Kelly bag has long been a rite of passage for many fashion devotees. Today, shoe and jewelery designer, Pierre Hardy, has created what is said to be the ultimate version of the iconic bag. Hardy's miniature Kelly, rendered in rose gold and diamonds, serves as both a hand bag and bracelet. The diamond encrusted handle serves as a cuff, while the detachable shoulder strap brings this piece back into handbag territory.

The accessory took Hardy two years to craft. Production involved 1,200 hours of labor, 1,600 diamonds weighing 33.94 carats, and an elaborate casting technique in which each piece of gold is shaped and polished to achieve a crocodile skin effect. Only four of these dazzlers were made, each bag going for a heart stopping $1.9 million.

Even the wealthiest bagista would have to think twice before purchasing this Kelly. This compact "bag" is too small to hold a pair of sunglasses, let alone the essentials we need in our purse! It may not be a necessity to most of us, but four lucky millionaires will get to tote this exquisite masterpiece.

If I was one of the very few that could afford Hardy's Kelly bag, I know I would be salivating at the chance to purchase one. A girl can dream in rose gold, right?
