Trend Watch: Velvets
The velvet trend is hardly new. Velvets have been a classic, timeless staple that can be worn in a number of ways! Everything from a velvet dress or maxi skirt, to finer details (like a fabulous shoe or handbag) shifts an ensemble from being monotonous to being jazzy and fiercely fabulous. The trick with velvet is to know how to incorporate it in both daytime and nighttime attire, and to pair it with complementary fabrics that are lighter and whimsical.
If you aren’t much of a fashion maven, velvets are the perfect way to create an instant impression of high-fashion excellence. If you thrive on a little fashion drama, then in consistency with the tone of velvet luxe, wear standout gems in rich tones and match your velvets with lush, airy pieces like semi-sheer chiffons and georgettes. For the holiday season, put down the sequins and select a velvet in a royal tone or metallic hue. Decide to introduce a bold (much-needed!) velvet counterpart into your wardrobe by choosing a velvet mini dress in a deep plum or indigo, perhaps a pair of platforms in a wine color, a clutch in a navy blue, or a subtly patterned tapered pant in a jet black. If your ensemble is primarily velvet-based, then handpick a complementary clutch in a cool gem tone with a touch of embellishment or with a striking pattern.
I just cannot get enough of this Cashhimi Perry clutch. It is the epitome of chic and is the perfect way to amplify your velvet ensemble. The grey and light olive mix, is ideal for a night out on the town and is a quintessential addition to an already luxurious velvet ensemble.
