The Handbago team has waited in anticipation for months to see what was hiding inside that mysterious glowing shopping bag from their previous site layout. Nyla Noor ensured the public that they would produce "arm candy, with a conscience," and that's exactly what they've done.

We caught up with Melanie, designer of Mel Boteri handbags!  After going to school for business, she decided to start her own.  Find out all about Mel Boteri, her handbags, and how her business degree helped her in the fashion world!

You have such a wide assortment of bags in your collection. Tell us about what made you decide to build your own handbag business. When and how did Mel Boteri come to be?

It's a known fact that styles and trends in fashion are recycled over time. The hippy look is as popular today as it was in the 60s, fanny packs are back on the scene, and people are sporting plaid and leather more than any grunge rock star in the 90s. Truly talented designers understand that fashion isn't only about creating something completely new, but that it's just as important to take something old and re-work it into a great product that is both relevant and fashionable in the present.

San Diego artist and designer Patricia Kor built her collection of handbags and accessories with the goal to translate art into fashion, producing creative pieces that women can't find anywhere else. The collection showcases handmade leather and canvas handbags manufactured in both Southern California and Argentina. While every Patricia Kor bag is light weight (no sore shoulders or backs!) and shines as a unique work of art, the majority follow a brilliantly colored floral palette that allow her clients to carry the beauty and romance of spring into every season.

Designer Mariana Goschin knows leather: she grew up watching her father create leather jackets in Romania, and even helped sew the quilted linings into his products. Little did she know that her humble beginnings in design would later bloom into a full-fledged career in fashion. She and her mentor, Richard Elgrichi, co-founded Carla Mancini in 1995, and the brand is quickly growing into one of the hottest names in handbag fashion.

The life of a fashion blogger can be a glamorous one; after all, there aren't too many jobs out there that require you to attend VIP parties, annual product sales, and designer showcases. It's hard work, but somebody has to do it. However, in my opinion, out of the dozens of invitations a fashion writer may receive, those that truly excite are the personal invitations from a designer to visit his or her private showroom to view their newest pieces--or if you're lucky, pieces that have yet to be released.

After an incredible vacation to Indonesia, the Beirn family wanted to create handmade bags as tokens of their adventures. I had a chance to catch up with the Beirn designers and founders, Rita, Jenna and Ali and find out more about their wonderful family business.
